The Casualties of War

Despite efforts to employ a graduated exit strategy in Iraq, there have been slightly more than 4,300 soldiers killed since our initial invasion in spring 2003. This past month represented the largest number of deaths in almost a year. We honor those valiant souls who, both here and abroad, attempt to protect the liberty of our great nation.

Just Plane Crazy

In a plot reminiscent of a Twilight Zone or Lost episode, Air France Flight 447 en route from Rio de Janiero to Paris disappeared Sunday over the Atlantic Ocean moments after an automated message regarding electrical failure was relayed. A vast search began early Monday, but all 216 passengers and 12 crew members from 32 nations (including two Americans) are feared dead. Nearly 4 hours into its journey, the plane was cruising through a band of inclement weather, and experts theorize either turbulence or lightning could have been the culprit.  We extend our heartfelt condolences to all who are touched by this tragedy.
