Anna Nicole Smith’s bodyguard, Maurice Brighthaupt, testified today for a second time in the criminal proceedings against co-defendants, Stern, Kapoor and Eroshevich. Last week he testified about Smith’s drug use. Today the focus was on the bodyguard’s attempt to collect money for photos of Smith and her daughter. In an attempt to discredit his testimony, the defense portrayed him as a conspirator in the plot.
Brighthaupt testified that he considered selling photos of Dannielynn to People magazine for a million dollars shortly after her birth. He further testified to receiving monies for providing photos and giving interviews from various entertainment TV shows following Smith’s death in 2007. The defense questioned his integrity, noting that the first time he publicly spoke of Smith’s death was only after Stern accused him of stealing the photos.
During today’s questioning, the prosecutor objected claiming “the defense was trying to implant the impression that everyone around Smith was scheming to get money.”This objection was overuled by the judge who gave the defense the right to “attack the credibility of the witness.” More to come tomorrow…
