Read Our Lips: No New Taxes!

Californians are sick and tired of government fondling their pockets.  Amidst a $21.3 billion dollar deficit, California voters resoundingly rejected 5 of 6 propositions aimed to “temporarily fix” the state’s financial crisis.  In Los Angeles County approximately 17% of the registered voters actually voted.  Is this lack of voter turn out perhaps a sign of frustration with government.  If these measures passed, then Californians would have been levied higher taxes to balance the crippled budget.

Not surprisingly, the approved measure blocks state legislators and other elected officials from receiving pay hikes in deficit years.  Grassroots reform groups such as California Forward are attempting to provide solutions in the wake of abject failure among government to combat this ever-widening gap.  Is there perhaps a revolution brewing in the wild, wild west…

  1. that too many pork projects…arrogance of state legislators…ridiculous welfare provisions for non-citizens…and citizens alike…a sense of entitlement….has finally worn the middle class person to exasperation…It is terrible to work and pay taxes and see a deficit…because of the welfare state we are entering….remember what happened to Boxer the horse in George Orwells’ “Animal Farm”?

  2. I asked http://www.dogpile.com what happened to BOXER and believe me, it was horrible and scary. It is exactly what is happening to many of us. Poor Boxer worked and slaved all his life for his anticipated retirement. He worked on a painful split hoof with no complaint, he believed in the system. Then just a month before retirement, he fell on his side and could not get up. The veterinary was called and a van came and took Boxer away. Boxer was never seen again again. Some said the van was painted on its side “Horse Slaughterer and Glue Factory” but others said Boxer had been given the finest hospital treatment and expensive meds before he had died. George Orwell was a prophet. And Charlie is a very smart person.

  3. For maximum Liberty, we need to pay as directly as possible for our schools, roads, protections. Groups of neighbors who know one another in my utopia would get together and each contribute to the school, for example. Those who did not pay could not use the schools, roads, protections. The smallest and weakest government is the best government. Weak government, Strong Citizen. Strong government = weak citizen.

    1. your formula makes sense but how can we include human nature into it?
weak citizen = desperation which leads to all sorts of corruption
then again, strong government leads to a similar kind of corruption. only inspired by greed instead of desperation. charlie reminded us about animal farm by orwell…how appropriate

  4. I doubt that you are really a Libertarian, or have even been around Libertarians because you sure don’t sound like one.

  5. when i was very young…my father worked in the conservation corps…we were given “relief”..ie…cheese…potatoes…sacks of flour and other commodities..plus father was given a small stipend…all he had to do was work…and he was able to maintain his
dignity during those hard times…my father always spoke with pride how he
still supported us and eventually moved into good jobs and homes…It seems that work and family oriented ethic has really gone by the wayside…
everyone wants a piece of the entitlement pie…without doing anything for it…fortunately, i maintained his work ethic and am amazed to see grown men sitting on a porch waiting for the mailman to bring his check…Big brother has become the surrogate father…and it saddens me still.

  6. California Libertarian is obviously a preident BO democrat in disguise..trying to convince us poor uneducated peoples why we have to pay huge taxes for low rent services.

  7. I am the point that i am willing to pay the taxes, try not to complain about it and work hard, all i ask in return from the democrats is make other people work and give me my God back in school prayer to help complete moral lessons.

  9. And the recent budget cuts for the UC system are only going to increase college tuition for students, not to mention pay cuts for the professors and other campus employees.
I’d love to see the Gov donate one of his many houses to a scholarship fund for the same students his budget cuts will prevent from getting an education.

  10. Governator has failed this state several times. It’s hard to believe that he was brought in to clean up this mess given that he was going to be the charismatic uniter who could transcend Sacramento politics. By far, his worst role yet, and this man has made some bombs. Junior, anyone?

  11. […] The ripple effect of California’s budget crisis could have an adverse effect on the high profile drug-related deaths of Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson. Click here for more information on the budget crisis: read our lips. […]

  12. We do not have to pay taxes to pay for it. We can do without and be the better for it. There is too much entitlement. There are far too many government services and they are all of the poorest quality. The first expense that can be cut are the highest salaries. I will never believe that a person earning $200,000 annually is worth ten people earning $20,000.

    1. I agree that the people at the top govnt positions are paid more than their worth as their assistants and everyone else on the totem pole is doing more of the work. As an aside though, who can survive off of 20k a year? These days 100k a year is barely enough to support a family of four and provide for education in the future.

  13. thomas is correct, but the biggest winners are the churches; when a family was really down and out, the churches were the ones who helped out the needy and poor and through simple networking was able to try and find work for the indigent families who were indeed suffering. But when the democrats came into power this prideful
action was usurped by government officials trying to make this a socialist state, forcing people to be accountable to the state.I was always taught that government was accountable to the people. Now the churches can use that money and build huge monoliths to their God. The old argument enters my head, would Jesus wear a rolex?
